At Oxona Clinic, patient comfort is always a priority. For procedures where pain relief is beneficial, we offer Entonox, a fast-acting, inhaled pain relief option that can help make your treatment experience more comfortable.
What Is Entonox?
Entonox is a premixed 50:50 combination of nitrous oxide (N₂O) and oxygen (O₂), commonly known as “laughing gas.” It is widely used in medical and dental settings for short procedures. Entonox provides rapid pain relief and may produce a light, relaxing sensation, while leaving you alert and able to resume normal activities after your procedure, including driving.
How It Works
When inhaled, Entonox acts within seconds to modify the perception of pain in the central nervous system. Nitrous oxide reduces pain signals, while oxygen ensures safe oxygen levels throughout the procedure. Its effects disappear almost immediately once inhalation stops.
Safety and Monitoring
Entonox is generally very safe when administered under professional supervision. Mild side effects can include:
- Light-headedness
- Tingling in hands or feet
- Occasional nausea
It is not suitable for patients with certain conditions, such as severe respiratory problems, specific vitamin B12 deficiencies, or certain eye or abdominal conditions. This will be discussed with your doctor before treatment commences. During your procedure, continuous monitoring ensures patient safety, which is carried out by the doctor and our clinical assistants.
Recovery
One of the main advantages of Entonox is rapid recovery. Most patients feel completely normal within minutes and can safely continue with their day, as there is no lingering sedation.
How Entonox Can Be Used
Entonox is suitable for a variety of short procedures, including:
- Dermatology treatments e.g. skin tag or mole removal
- Aesthetic procedures including anti-wrinkle treatments and polynucleotides
- Blood tests, especially for those with a needle phobia.
- Post-procedural discomfort e.g. stitch removal
Key Benefits
- Fast-acting and effective pain relief
- Self-administered under supervision
- Short duration with rapid recovery
- Minimal side effects
