What Conditions Can Be Treated with Minor Skin Surgery?
Our dermatology-trained GPs carry out minor procedures to remove or treat a wide range of skin concerns, including:
- Moles – for medical or cosmetic reasons
- Skin tags – typically removed for comfort or appearance
- Sebaceous cysts – safely excised to prevent infection or discomfort
- Lipomas – soft, fatty lumps under the skin
- Warts and verrucas – including stubborn or recurring cases
- Keloid scars – treated with injections, cryotherapy, or excision

All procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic, with tailored aftercare and support included as part of your treatment plan.

What our patients think
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to book?
No referral is required. You can book directly online, by phone, or via email.
Do you treat children under the age of 18?
Yes, we treat children and teenagers at both clinics. For procedures requiring discomfort tolerance (e.g. verruca freezing), we generally recommend age 10+. Patients under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Can I claim for my appointment on insurance?
You’ll need to check with your insurer before booking. Some providers will reimburse private dermatology appointments, but you may need documentation signed during your visit.
Please note: our doctors are GMC-registered GPs, not consultants, so confirm this is acceptable to your insurer beforehand.
Are the procedure painful?
Most minor skin procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel any pain during the treatment. You might feel some pressure or pulling, but we’ll make sure you’re as comfortable as possible.
Will I have a scar?
Some scarring is likely, as with any procedure that involves cutting the skin. However, our clinicians use techniques designed to minimise scarring, and they’ll explain what to expect during your consultation. We’ll also provide advice on scar care after the procedure.
Can I return to work the same day?
In most cases, yes. Minor skin procedures typically have minimal downtime. You may need to avoid strenuous activity for a short period depending on the treatment site and type of procedure.
How long does the procedure take?
Most procedures take around 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the size and complexity of the lesion being removed.
Will I need stitches?
It depends on the procedure. Some excisions require dissolvable or removable stitches, while others (like shave excisions or cryotherapy) don’t require any at all. Your doctor will explain this before your procedure.
What aftercare is involved?
You’ll be given clear written aftercare instructions before you leave the clinic. We’ll explain how to clean the area, what to expect during healing, and when to contact us if needed. Follow-up appointments are arranged if required.
