What our patients think
Frequently asked questions
Can I claim for my appointment on insurance?
Possibly. Some insurers will reimburse private dermatology consultations, but you’ll need to check with your provider in advance.
Please note: all our doctors are GMC-registered GPs, not consultants. Be sure to clarify this with your insurer before your appointment. If documentation is required, bring it along for the doctor to sign.
Do you treat children under the age of 18?
Yes, we treat under-18s at all our clinics. For procedures requiring higher pain tolerance (e.g. freezing verrucas), we usually recommend a minimum age of 10. Patients under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Do I need a referral to book a private dermatology appointment?
No referral is needed. You can book directly online, by phone, or via email. We aim to offer flexible appointment times without long waits.
Who will I see during my dermatology appointment?
You’ll see a GP with specialist training in dermatology. Our clinicians can assess a wide range of skin conditions, prescribe treatment, and carry out minor procedures where needed.
What skin conditions do you treat?
We treat a wide range of dermatological concerns, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, moles, warts, cysts, keloid scars, skin tags, and more. Visit our Conditions We Treat section to learn more.
Can I get treatment during my first appointment?
In many cases, yes. If the treatment is straightforward and you’re happy to proceed, we may be able to provide treatment at the same time as your consultation. Some treatments (e.g. minor surgery) may require a follow-up appointment.
Do you offer prescriptions?
Yes. If clinically appropriate, your dermatologist can issue a private prescription during your appointment. Medication is paid for at the pharmacy, and prices may differ from NHS charges.
What happens after my consultation?
You’ll leave with a clear treatment plan, and if needed, a follow-up appointment will be arranged. We also provide free post-treatment support to help with any questions or concerns.
How much does a private dermatology consultation cost?
Initial consultations start from £115. Your clinician will explain any additional costs during your appointment—for example, for minor procedures or follow-up treatments.
Can I book an appointment for a skin check or mole mapping?
Yes. We offer mole checks and full body skin examinations to assess unusual or changing moles. If a mole needs removal or further investigation, we’ll explain your options clearly.
Where is your clinic located?
Our Oxford dermatology clinic is located in St Luke’s Hospital, Headington, with easy access by public transport and parking nearby. We also offer appointments at our other clinics in St Albans, Reading, Didcot, and Chipping Norton.
